Status of various projects
R, Databases and Docker: This is a group project running out of a Portland data Slack channel. We’re on GitHub at https://github.com/smithjd/sql-pet.
This blog: I finally decided to see what this Distill thing is. I’ve been skeptical because
But I took the plunge - about half a day to port the blog, which you are now reading, from blogdown
.
dfstools (https://znmeb.github.io/dfstools/): I’m putting together a couple of blog posts on basketball analytics and I’ll be enhancing the package to make those happen.
algocompsynth (https://znmeb.github.io/algocompsynth/): This is another R package. There’s not much there except dependencies at the moment but the plan is coming.
The books - there are two, the one you may recall (Mastering DFS Analytics), and Basketball Analytics with R, currently residing at https://znmeb.github.io/basketball-analytics-with-r/. I’ve pretty much abandoned the DFS book for now, but I’ll probably come back to it when the WNBA season starts.
The plan for the basketball book is to work with NBA data from the current season via MySportsFeeds.com, mens’ and women’s NCAA data in the Kaggle March Madness contest, and last season’s WNBA.
I mostly want to focus on womens’ basketball because I think the market’s there for the same kind of “stat head” content that men’s basketball gets. You’ll probably see chapters here and then they’ll migrate to the book over time.
